Waukegan Park District Sponsors Photo Contest

Waukegan, IL (November 6, 2018)… In celebration of the Bicentennial of Illinois statehood as well as the Waukegan Historical Society’s pop-up exhibit “Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times,” the Waukegan Park District’s Jack Benny Center for the Arts invites amateur and professional photographers to share images that they feel best represent the State of Illinois. Participants will be able to win two awards, “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice”. Images must be of an Illinois location. Nostalgic images of the past may be submitted. We only ask that the image be taken by the submitting participant.

Contest Rules:

-Photographs should be framed and ready-to-hang with a wire on the back. Frames can be up to 11” x 14” including matting.

-To maintain anonymity for voting purposes, participants should not put their name on the front of the photograph. Names will be added to the display during the awards presentation, and they will remain for the final week of public viewing.

-Photographs with nudity or offensive images will not be allowed.

-Completed entries are due to the Jack Benny Center for the Arts by 4:00pm on December 1, 2018. Photographs will remain on display December 3, 2018 through January 26, 2019. Please pick-up your photographs by February 2, 2019.

-Participants are allowed to submit two (2) photographs. You may price and sell your photos if you choose and 100% of the sale price goes to the photographer. Photos must remain up for the duration of the show.

-Each submitted photograph must have a title, location of where the image was taken, date taken, as well as a description on how image fits the theme.

-Participants should have a local connection to Waukegan, or live within 50 miles of the City.

-There is no fee to participate.

Judging Guidelines:

Best in Show ($200 Prize)

Local artists, historians, and supporters of the Waukegan Park District Recreation/Cultural Arts will judge this award. They will judge on adherence/appropriateness to the theme, uniqueness, visual appeal, and originality. The winner will be announced January 19, 2019.
