Sheriff's Warrants Team Apprehend Wanted Sexual Offender

On October 30, 2018, the Lake County Sheriff's Office Warrants Team in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service-Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF) apprehended Arturo G. Torres II, 24, of the 600 block of Baldwin Avenue, Waukegan. Torres, a registered sexual offender, was wanted for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse by the Lake County Sheriff's Office. He also had an active failure to appear warrant for Residential Burglary and Failure to Report Change of Address by a Sexual Offender.

The Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse charge is the result of an extensive investigation by Lake County Sheriff's Detectives in which Torres was identified as the father of a child birthed by a 16-year-old girl. Torres was 22-years-old at the time of the offense. Torres was also a registered sex offender at the time of the offense. On June 27, 2018, Lake County Sheriff's Detectives obtained an arrest warrant ($500,000 bond) for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.

While avoiding apprehension on the Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse charge, Torres missed court for pending charges of Residential Burglary and Failure to Report Change of Address by a Sexual Offender (charges stem from a Waukegan Police Department investigation). This prompted a Judge to issue a failure to appear arrest warrant for Torres with a $1 million bond.

USMS-GLRFTF obtained information Torres was staying at a home in the 600 block of Baldwin Avenue, Waukegan. Warrants Team Deputies apprehended Torres inside the residence without incident.

Torres was transported to the Lake County Jail where he remains held on $2,000,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on November 14, 2018, at 1:30PM in courtroom T110.

The Zion-Benton Times reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
