Greek Food Fest

November 2, 2018

Authentic Greek cuisine comes to Lake County Thursday and Friday, November 8-9 when St. Demetrios Church presents its Fall Greek Food Festival. From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the St. Demetrios women’s charitable organization offers their Athenian Kitchen and Bake Sale at the church, 1400 O’Plaine Road in Libertyville, between Routes 137 Buckley Road and 120 Belvidere Road.

The feast starts with roast lamb, gyros or Greek chicken and ends with favorite pastries like baklava, nut cake, and melt-in-your-mouth cookies. In between are sides such as cheese puffs and spinach pie.

“The tastes are unique,” says Irene Booras of St. Demetrios. “It’s all handmade and represents the finest of Greek villages and islands. TThe annual event is a popular lunch find for workers at nearby Abbott, AbbVie, and others employers. Takeout orders are encouraged, and many people order ahead – at (224) 513-5530 – picking up dinner on their way home from work.
