Construction Crash

A Waukegan woman was cited after police say she drove her car around road barricades and ended up crashing into a construction site on Route 45 in Libertyville on the evening of Thursday, October 18th.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office was called at 7:40 p.m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a black Hyundai on Route 45 between Casey Road and Peterson Road under the Route 137 overpass.

Lynnea Williams, 21, of the 2500 block of Berkshire Court in Waukegan, drove over 1,000 feet past road barricades before crashing into the construction site, police said.

Williams was not injured and no one else was in the car with her at the time of the crash. She was issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, disobeying a traffic control device, and driving with an expired registration.

Route 45 was closed off just hours before the crash for Metra crews to replace a retaining wall that collapsed during heavy rain back on September 3 at the underpass.

Officials did not say what exactly caused the driver to crash. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 26th.
