Elderly Man Struck By Vehicle, Killed

October 26, 2018

A 67-year-old Round Lake Beach man died after he was struck by a vehicle while trying to cross State Route 83 near Monaville Road Monday night while walking a bicycle and carrying groceries.

The victim, who was not immediately identified by authorities, was found in the roadway unresponsive by Round Lake Beach police officers, according to Deputy Chief Michael Scott.

The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead, Scott said.

According to Deputy Chief Scott, the man was crossing Route 83 from the west side and was heading east just before 7 p.m. when he was struck by a 2008 Ford Taurus driven by a 26-year-old woman from Lindenhurst who was traveling southbound on Route 83.

After he was struck, debris ended up in the northbound lane, and a 27-year-old woman from Wheeling driving an Infiniti struck some of that debris and stopped, Scott said.

“We do not have any evidence that he was struck more than once,” Scott said in a statement on Tuesday. He also could not say whether the victim had been grocery shopping at the nearby Walmart.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called to the scene to investigate the crash.
