County Administrator Barry Burton Announces Exit

The Lake County Administrator, Barry Burton, has announced that eh plans to accept a ounty Administrator Job in Tampa Bay and will be leaving in November.

“I wasn’t really out their shopping,” says Burton. “But this was one of those good places where there is a stable government that is considered progressive.”

According to public record, Burton was paid $247,090 per year with a $7,000 car allowance.

Burton’s exit comes at the same time that the County Board Chairman, Aaron Lawlor is under Illinois State Police investigation for fraudulent use of County credit cards. Burton is the administrator in charge of signing off on Lawlor’s charges to that card.

Burton says that he does not police the elected officials credit card use, he just signs off on them. He said that for the last few month he had not signed off on Lawlor’s account because it was missing information.

In Tampa, the new position, which Burton has been offered has a salary range of $212,000 to 275,000 annually. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Burton was selected as the number candidate after a nationwide search. Burton has reportedly been offered a raise. He says that his wife and her family is from the Tampa Bay areas and his daughter is going off to college and that now is a good time for change.
