Attorney Reginal Mathews was recently selected to serve as the Associate Judge of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court by a jury of his peers.

"It is with great delight I announce that Mr. Reginald C. Mathews of Lindenhurst will become the next Associate Judge of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit," said Chief Judge Jay W. Ukena.

Chief Judge Ukena was notified on June 18, 2018, by Marcia M. Meis, Director of the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts, that Mr. Mathews received the majority number of votes cast and is eligible for appointment to serve as an Associate Judge in Lake County. Mathews fills a vacancy that is the result of an additional associate judgeship that was granted to the Nineteen Judicial Circuit by the Illinois Supreme Court pursuant to the provisions of 705 ILCS 45/2.1 and Illinois Supreme Court Rule 39.

"Mr. Mathews brings a great wealth of knowledge and diversity of thought related to our justice system and an in-depth understanding of the community at large. We look forward to Mr. Mathews joining the court as we are confident that he will uphold the tenants of our judicial canons and help us to carry out our most sacred duty, to serve all citizens of Lake County," Chief Judge Jay Ukena said.

"He is one of the top people in our office and one of my closest friends," says State's Attorney Michael Nerheim. "He is going to make an outstanding judge."

Mathews attended Western Illinois University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement Administration in 1994. He later earned his Juris Doctor in 2001 from Louisiana State University. Mr. Mathews was admitted to practice law in Illinois in November of 2001 and is a member of the Lake County Bar Association and NICASA Teen Court. Mr. Mathews is currently the Division Chief of the Gang and Narcotics Division with the Lake County State's Attorney Office.
