Memorial Day Programs


World War II Vets Lead Memorial Day Service

n honor of fallen comrades, and all those who gave their lives for God and Country, the Zion-Benton Post 865 of the American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion Zion-Benton Squadron held a Memorial Day program at Memorial Park in Zion on Memorial Day. Mayor Al Hill made a proclamation recognizing the contribution of all veterans.

The Zion-Benton Post 865 Color Guard posted the colors, and the Star Spangled Banner was presented by the Lakes Areas Swing Band, Larry Langenbergs -Director. The Pledge of Allegiance and Invocation was presented by Pastor Daniel Duncan Victory Baptist Church. Thomas Lex, Sr. Sgt. Major USMC Ret gave a Remembrance for POW and MIA. There was an Armed Forces Medley by the Lakes Area Swing Band and then a Roll Call of Honor.

Seniors and WWII Veterans Alfred E. McElroy, Clinton R. McElroy, and POW John E. Stoffle placed ceremonial wreaths on the Memorial Wall.

Ladies of the American Legion donated water, coffee and loads of fresh donuts for all who attended. More photos inside on page 4.
