Shirley McDaniel, 50-year Employee Retirees

On May 17, 2018, The Grove at the Lake celebrated Shirley McDaniel, 81, with a retirement ceremony for her 50 years of dedicated service. Shirley began as a Certified Nursing Assistant on January 28, 1968 at the Zion Nursing Home which was a part of the historic Zion Hotel. After many years of transitions, Shirley remained a dedicated employee.

"We are honored by her loyalty and continuous patient care here at the Grove At The Lake," says Tanya Palmer, Marketing Manager of the Grove At The Lake.

Shirley developed a passion for caring for others as a child when she helped her mother take care of her disabled Aunt who lived with her family. When asked about why she enjoyed being a CAN, Shirley stated that she really enjoyed caring for and talking with people because she views them as "a living history".

Shirley said that she misses coming to work every day but has a lot to keep her busy. She enjoys working in her yard with flowers, plants, and harvesting seeds from fruit and plants throughout the year and grows them so they can be planted in the spring. She also enjoys working on word search puzzles and is looking forward to visiting with family and friends. Although Shirley will thoroughly enjoy her retirement, she wishes she could have continued to go to work every day and do what she really loves, which is caring for people.

"The entire Grove at the Lake Family wishes Shirley the best in her future adventures and can not thank her enough for her years of dedication," says Julie Sta
