Stop the Landfill Expansion

Residents of the Northeast corner of Illinois, and west Winthrop Harbor residents, attended the City Council meeting on May 15, 2018 to complain of the planned expansion of Advance Disposal Services of Zion’s landfill. The group, Winthrop Harbor Citizens against Landfill Expansion, represented by Kathleen Barnett, said that the current landfill emits an unpleasant order, creates excessive dust, and attracts bird. An expansion of the landfill would increase the current problems in the area.

Advance Disposal Services, reportedly, has purchased 110 acres from Arthur Weiler Nursery for $11.5 million, which will significantly extend the dump to Kenosha and State Line Roads.

The citizens group are asking residents to sign petitions, and they have contacted Congressman Brad Schneider, State Representative Sheri Jesiel, and Brent Paxton-Lake County Commissioner for help.
