Time To Plant Your Zinnias

Zinna Elgens

Spring has sprung, and now's the time to plant in your garden Zinnias. City officials voted on March 20, 2018 to name the Zinnia, a flower native to the United States and South America, the official flower of Zion.

" Zinnias come in a wide array of colors, shapes and sizes, which reflects the makeup of our community," says Township Supervisor Cheri Neal who is also the driving force behind the Zinnias for Zion initiative.

The 1st Annual Zinnias for Zion season begins Memorial Day Weekend, planting seeds and flowers after all chances of frost pass. The community will be blooming this summer with over 1500 free seed packets being distributed, along with information on other events this summer. Seeds were donated by Joyful Butterfly, Ball Horticultural Company and Applewood Seed Co.

Planting is recommended beginning Memorial Day Weekend after all chances of frost have passed.
