April 24, 2018, Zion, IL – The Zion-Benton Library Board has named a new Library Director, Mikael Lars Jacobsen. He will begin his new position on May 21st, 2018.

Jacobsen comes from the Skokie Public Library, where he was the Learning Experiences Manager. He has been there since 2014 and he manages a department of 24 staff. Skokie's Learning Experiences department provides learning experiences for all ages.

According to Library Board President, Beverly Mull, one of the key components in their search for a new director was that it had to be someone who understood diversity.

"The Library is a resource, and we wanted everyone to feel comfortable coming here," says Mull.

According to Mull, a criterion for the person selected was that the candidate could understand the importance of working with a diverse population as is in the Zion area. There were nine applicants.

Mull said that through his interview, he demonstrated that he could help make the vision that the Board has for serving the community happen.

The job pays about $95,000 a year.

The current interim Library Director, Linda Stoppenbach, will stay on to help Mikael settle into his new position.
