Community Action Turns 54

(Waukegan, Illinois)—Community Action Partnership of Lake County is celebrating Community Action Month in May, dedicated to recognizing the success of the national Community Action Network. America’s Community Action Agencies connect millions of children and families to greater opportunity, transforming their lives and making our communities — and our nation— stronger. This May 2018, Community Action Partnership of Lake County will be engaging in programs and events that showcase our innovative work in Lake County.

“Community Action Month is a wonderful time to honor and celebrate the impact Community Action has in the lives of families and communities across the country,” stated Executive Director/CEO of Community Action Partnership of Lake County – Mary Lockhart White. “The Community Action Partnership Network offers insight to leaders looking to understand what is working on the ground to help families thrive—creating smarter solutions that can be put to work within communities across the country.”

White continued, “This past year, our Agency has served 24,000 of families in Lake County and empowered them to attain self-sufficiency. We are particularly proud to have graduated 13 young adults from the Job Readiness Training Summer Program and served 542 children in the Head Start program. Our work changes lives and strengthens our entire community.”

To celebrate its success and raise awareness in the community, Community Action Partnership of Lake County will host 3 events: CAP Rally at Waukegan City Hall on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:00 am, the 11th “Why I Walk” annual Anti-Poverty 5K on Saturday, May 5, 2018 starting at 9:30 am, and the 2018 Helping People.
